Simplicity starts in the heart

August 25, 2019 – Gary Martin concluded the summer series on spiritual practices by emphasizing that the journey into simplicity begins in the heart, not with a “to do less of” list.  In Luke 10:38-42, Martha was worried and distracted by many things, so Jesus contrasted her behavior with “there is need of only one thing,” pointing to Mary as example.  The one thing is our recognition of who we are: a beloved child of God, called to be Jesus’ disciple.  Such simplicity of being is the foundation for the spiritual practice of simplicity.
