What to Expect When Visiting

First Mennonite Church

Interior of a community or church hall with open double doors leading to a room with red carpet and chairs, a bulletin board on the wall, a table with sanitizer, and decorations including a quilt hanging on the wall.

What to expect on arrival

After you enter the front of the church and sign the guest book, you will see the sanctuary on your left. While we have ushers handing out bulletins, you may proceed directly into the sanctuary and sit wherever you feel comfortable. If you require a large print hymnal or hearing assistance, stop by the welcome center to get what you need. The greeters can assist you.

An empty church or auditorium with wooden chairs arranged in rows facing a stage. The stage has a grand piano, a pulpit, and microphones, with windows on the back wall letting in natural light. The room has a red carpet and wooden accents.

Where to sit

You can sit wherever you feel comfortable. When you first enter the sanctuary, you will see several rows of chairs in an arc facing the front. You can find tables with coloring pages and other activities in the back left and right. The A/V tech on the right side of the sanctuary can provide hearing assistance if needed.

Four people, three women and one man, are in a room with colorful artwork on the wall. The man is sitting, smiling, while the women are standing around him, giving him gifts or wrapping paper.

What the service is like

Our worship service blends together traditional hymns, instrumental music, and occasional contemporary songs. Children come forward for Children’s Time before one of our pastors delivers the week’s message. During sharing time, our worship leader will invite members of the congregation to share their joys and prayer requests before leading us in a communal prayer. The service ends with announcements, introduction of guests, and a closing blessing.

Where to go after the service

After the service you are invited to join our Fellowship Time, where people have conversations in the fellowship hall outside the sanctuary or head to the kitchen to enjoy a warm beverage. The kitchen serves coffee, tea, and hot chocolate or lemonade weekly. On the second Sunday of each month, volunteers also bring treats. Every other Sunday, we offer Sunday School classes for children and adults after Fellowship Time. Occasionally, we share a meal together after the service.
